The Newport Tigers finished the regular season as the fifth seed with a 5-3 record and will travel Saturday, November 9 to Gilford to face the fourth-seeded Golden Eagles in the quarterfinals of the Division III football playoffs at 1:00 PM.

Thursday, October 24

Varsity Field Hockey: Division III Preliminary Round

No. 9 Newport 1, No. 8 St. Thomas 0, OT

Ninth-seeded Newport got a goal in overtime from Maddox Lovely to outlast eighth-seeded St. Thomas 1-0 October 24 in overtime. The game was tense throughout with the Tigers controlling large portions of the game in both penalty corners and shots on goal. Bree Robertson posted the shutout making a couple key saves in the fourth quarter and in overtime. The Tigers got the game winner in the latter stages of the extra session as Taylor Fellows and Lovely worked a nifty give-and-go with Lovely converting a feed from Fellows. Newport will now play at top-seeded Gilford October 27 in the quarterfinals at 2:00 p.m.

Thursday, October 17

Varsity Golf: Tigers compete at Division IV golf championship

Carter White and Zach Meyette represented the Tigers at the Division IV golf state finals October 17 at Keene Country Club. Both had strong rounds, but did not make the cut for Saturday’s Division III individual championship. Mascenic was the state champion in the team competition, while Gorham was runner-up.

Varsity Field Hockey: Newport 8, Monadnock 0

It was a successful Senior Day for the Tigers as nine seniors played their final game and got a big win over Monadnock 8-0 October 17 at Veterans Field. Senior Maddox Lovely scored a pair of goals, while fellow seniors Erica Sayer, Peyton Blackinton, Jasmyne Lee and Taylor Fellows also scored. Senior Jazmyn McNamara was solid in the middle, while senior Natasha Carpenter was strong on her free hits. Senior goalie Bree Robertson posted another shutout with defensive help from senior Kylie Janicke. Newport will most likely play on the road October 24 in the preliminary round of the Division III tournament.

Tuesday, October 15

Varsity Girls Soccer: Inter-Lakes 1, Newport 0

The Tigers lost a well-played game at Inter-Lakes 1-0 October 15. The game was tied 0-0 at the half before the Lakers managed the game-winner in the second half. Glory Parker was outstanding in goal for Newport with outstanding defensive support from Jesenya Santana.

Varsity Field Hockey: Hopkinton 4, Newport 2

Newport dominated possession and shots with many opportunities to score, but fell at Hopkinton 4-2 October 15. Maddox Lovely answered Hopkinton goals to tie the game 2-2 in the second half, but the Hawks came out on top. Taylor Fellows was strong at midfield while Hanna Fellows and Jazmyn McNamara also played well.

Friday, October 11

Varsity Football: Newport 34, Fall Mountain 0

Newport improved to 4-1 in Division III with a victory over Fall Mountain 34-0 October 11 at Hubbard Field. The Tigers rolled out to a 22-0 halftime lead over the Wildcats and cruised in the second half. Newport scored in the first half on a Tyson DiPaola 17-yard run, Amelio Urista four-yard run and an Aaron Fellows to Aidan Couitt 23-yard scoring toss. DiPaola caught the conversion pass after his score and Fellows called his own number to convert after the Urista touchdown. Newport put the game away in the third quarter as Wesley Wheeler and Fellows both scored on one-yard runs.

Varsity Cross Country: Newport Places at CVC Finals

The Newport boys finished in fifth place at the CVC Finals October 11 at the Cheshire Fairgrounds.

Hanover was the winner edging Keene for the title. Michael Bohn ran a personal best time of 18:48 to lead the Tigers in thirty-fifth place. He was followed by Bryce Palmer in fiftieth, John Wilkinson in fifty-fourth, Max Huot in sixty-fifth, Kellan Zullo in sixty-ninth, Bentley Waterman in seventy-second and Lukas Pitta seventy-third.

Thursday, October 3

Varsity Girls Soccer: Kearsarge 6, Newport 0

Kearsarge beat the visiting Newport Tigers 6-0 October 3 in Division III girls soccer. The Tigers played hard, but had trouble putting any offense together against the Cougars. Skylar Nelson had a solid game for Newport at wing and forward, while Bella Medbery worked hard up front and Lela Trott was strong on defense in front of goalie Glory Parker.

JV Boys Soccer: Newport 5, Franklin 3

Newport picked up a big win at Franklin 5-3 Oct0ber 3. The Tigers jumped out to a 4-0 lead over the Golden Tornadoes before holding them off for the victory. Newport possessed the ball for long periods of time in Franklin territory. Carson Almstrom led Newport with a hat trick while John Wilkinson added a pair of goals. Owen Beard, Bryce Palmer, Wilkinson and Almstrom all had assists. Jayden Godwin made ten saves in goal for Newport to pick up the win.

Tuesday, October 1

Varsity Girls Soccer: Newport 7, Hinsdale 0

Newport blew up a tight game in the first half scoring six second half goals in a huge win over Hinsdale 7-0 October 1 at Sichol Field. Torrence Williams and Cassie Sanborn scored two goals each to lead the Tigers while Makayla Cossingham, Abby Tenney and Bella Medbery added single tallies. Lela Trott had three assists, while Sanborn had two, Cossingham one and Medbery one. Glory Parker posted a clean sheet in goal with six saves. The trio of Cheyenne Hannum, Arianna Williams and Callie Dixon were strong on the defensive end.

Varsity Field Hockey: Newport 2, St. Thomas 2

Newport left Dover after a well-played tie at St. Thomas 2-2 October 1. Taylor Fellows and Hanna Fellows scored goals for the Tigers. The Saints tied the game in the last few seconds and sent it into overtime. Neither team could hit the back of the cage in the extra session and the game ended in a tie. Zoey Lord had a strong game for the Tigers.

Saturday, September 28

Varsity Field Hockey: Stevens 1, Newport 0

Newport lost a Homecoming nail-biter to Stevens 1-0 September 28 at Veterans Field. The win retains the Flint/Deschaine Cup for the second straight season for the Cardinals. Stevens scored late in the first half and made it stand up to capture the thrilling victory. Breanne Robertson was solid in goal for the Tigers with over twenty saves. Supporting her with strong defense were Kylie Janicke and Zoey Lord.

Varsity Football: Newport 44, Lebanon 0

Newport rolled over Lebanon 44-0 September 28 on Homecoming at Maryn Field. Tyson DiPaola scored four touchdowns for the Tigers who raced out to a 36-0 halftime lead. DiPaola scored on runs of 72, 43 and 6 yards and caught a 75-yard touchdown pass from Aaron Fellows. Newport also picked up scores by Amilio Urista on an 8-yard run and Kobie Curtis on a 2-yard run. DiPaola, Curtis and Wesley Wheeler ran in two-point conversions, while Fellows found Jordan Sayer for another conversion. Newport improves to 2-1.

Friday, September 27

Varsity Girls Soccer: Trinity 3, Newport 1

The Newport Tigers lost a physical Homecoming game to Trinity 3-1 September 27 at Sichol Field. The Pioneers scored late in the first half and twice early in the second half to take a 3-0 lead. The Tigers lone goal came in the final couple of minutes after Brooklyn Ranney was fouled in the penalty box. She deposited the penalty shot into the right corner of the net to give the Tigers their only score of the game.

Wednesday, September 25

Varsity Cross Country

The Newport boys finished second at its Homecoming meet September 25 at the Corbin Covered Bridge Course. Mascoma won the boys meet led by Gunnar Currier who set a new course record in a time of 16:06. The Royals scored 20 points to beat the Tigers who scored 51. Fall Mountain did not have enough runners for a team score. Bryce Palmer led Newport in fifth place in 18:21. He was followed by Michael Bohn in ninth, John Wilkinson in tenth, Max Huot in thirteenth, Kellan Zullo in fourteenth, Bentley Waterman in seventeenth and Lukas Pitta in nineteenth.

Monday, September 23

Varsity Girls Soccer: Sunapee 7, Newport 1

Sunapee raced out to a big early lead to beat Newport 7-1 September 23 at Sichol Field. The Lakers scored the first seven goals of the game in the first half before Cassie Sanborn got the Tigers on the board late in the first half. Neither team scored in the second half.

Friday, September 20

Varsity Golf: Mascenic 94, Fall Mountain 51, Prospect Mountain 47, Newport 34

Newport celebrated Senior Day for lone senior Stephen Hebert and had their best showing of the season September 20 at Newport Golf Club. Mascenic was the winner of the match. Leading the way for the Tigers was Carter White with thirteen points, Hebert with eleven, Zach Meyette with nine, Nick Shepardson with one and Jay Heiser with his first-ever point.

Varsity Field Hockey: Mascenic 3, Newport 2 OT

The Tigers lost a tough match at Mascenic 3-2 September 20 in overtime. Lexy Ash had the best game of her career as the freshman forward scored both of the goals for Newport. The Tigers led late, but the Vikings tied the game in the final quarter and won in the extra session.

“We played like we are capable of at times today,” Newport field hockey coach Haley Cotrupi said. “We’re just not getting enough shots off.”

Breanne Robertson played another strong game in the cage with good defense from Kylie Janicke.

Varsity Football: Monadnock 32, Newport 22

Newport lost a hard-fought battle at Monadnock 32-22 September 20. The Tigers matched the Huskies touchdown for touchdown, but Monadnock was able to pull away late in the fourth quarter. Aaron Fellows led the Tigers with 123 yards passes and three touchdowns. The senior signal caller tossed a pair of scoring strikes to Adrian Sanchez and one to Gabe Howe.

Saturday, September 21

Varsity Cross Country: Newport competes at White Mountain Invitational

The Newport boys cross country team competed at the White Mountain Invitational September 21 in Whitefield. Profile was the winner of the meet. Newport finished seventh. Bryce Palmer led the Tigers in fourteenth place, followed by Michael Bohn in seventh, Max Huot in twenty-ninth, Kellan Zullo in thirtieth and Bentley Waterman in forty-eighth.

Varsity Girls Soccer: Raymond 9, Newport 0

Newport had a tough Saturday morning game at Raymond, falling to the Rams 9-0 September 21. Raymond scored four times in the first half to take a commanding lead. Newport only managed one shot on goal as the Rams’ defense was suffocating, limiting the Tigers offensive chances. Skylar Nelson played a solid game for Newport.

Wednesday, September 18

Varsity Field Hockey: Mascenic 2, Newport 0

Mascenic cashed in its chances to win at Newport 2-0 September 18. The Vikings scored once in the second quarter and once in the final frame to beat the Tigers. Maddox Lovely, Taylor Fellows and Jasmyne Lee were strong on the offensive end for the Tigers but couldn’t put one in the cage against Mascenic’s goalie. Breanne Robertson was again strong in goal for Newport with defensive support from Kylie Janicke and Zoey Lord. Lexi Ash had a good game at midfield for the Tigers.

Varsity Girls Soccer: Sunapee 2, Newport 0

Newport lost a physical battle at local rival Sunapee 2-0 September 18. The Tigers played a strong game against the powerful Lakers but couldn’t solve their defense. Skylar Nelson was outstanding once again in goal with support on defense from Cheyenne Hannum and Callie Dixon.

Tuesday, September 17

Varsity Golf: Conant 78, Farmington 55, Moultonborough 40, Newport 32

Newport had a solid showing in a home match September 17 at Newport Golf Club. Carter White led Newport with twelve points, while Zach Meyette had ten, Stephen Hebert seven and Nick Shepardson three. Conant was the winner of the match.

JV Football: Newport 28, Stevens 6

Newport followed up its varsity win on Saturday by winning handily at Stevens 28-6 September 17 at Barnes Park. The Tigers defense led the way as Stevens had trouble moving the ball all day. Newport’s offense got a pair of touchdowns from Cameryn Simpson and single scores from Cam Nerenburg and Cam Mathieson to provide enough firepower for the Tigers.

Saturday, September 14

Varsity Football: Newport 16, Stevens 0

Newport used a smothering defense to beat local rival Stevens 16-0 September 14 at Maryn Field. With the win the Tigers retain the Chamber of Commerce Cup in the first renewal of the rival since 2020. The Tigers opened the scoring with Aidan Couitt tackling a Cards runner in the endzone for a safety. Aaron Fellows added to the lead with an 18-yard run. Fellows found Tyson DiPaola for the two-point conversion to push the lead to 10-0. Gabe Howe finished the scoring for the Tigers with a second quarter three-yard run. Couitt led the defense with a pair of sacks and eight tackles, while Amilio Urista added six tackles. DiPaola and Adrian Sanchez were standouts on Newport’s offense.

Friday, September 13

Varsity Field Hockey: Newport 8, Monadnock 0

Newport picked up a solid win at Monadnock 8-0 September 13. Taylor Fellows led the offense with three goals, while Maddox Lovely and Hanna Fellows added two each and Natasha Carpenter a single goal. Zoey Lord was strong at center-mid for the Tigers, while Kylie Janicke was strong on defense in front of goalie Breanne Robertson.

Thursday, September 12

Cross Country: Newport competed at a cross country meet at Fall Mountain September 12. The Tigers boys finished second behind Moultonborough Academy. Fall Mountain and Hillsboro-Deering were third and fourth. Bryce Palmer led Newport in sixth place, followed by Michael Bohn in seventh, John Wilkinson in tenth, Max Huot in seventeenth, Kellan Zullo in eighteenth, Bentley Waterman in twenty-ninth and Lucas Pitta in thirtieth. Alex Couitt was third place in the middle school meet.

Monday, September 9

Varsity Field Hockey: Newport 5, Kearsarge 4

Newport shook off a very sluggish first half to come-from-behind and win at Kearsarge 5-4 September 9.

Kearsarge led 3-1 into the second half and the Tigers didn’t take the lead until the fourth quarter.

Taylor Fellows notched a hat trick, while Maddox Lovely added a goal and Erica Sayer had her first career goal. Breanne Robertson made seven saves for Newport.

Coach Haley Cotrupi singled out the play of Fellows, Lovely and Sayer as well as Jazmyn McNamara, Hailey Hill and Kylie Janicke. 

Varsity Girls Soccer: Kearsarge 3, Newport 1

Kearsarge scored twice late to outlast Newport 3-1 September 9 at Sichol Field.

Brooklyn Ranney scored on a penalty kick in the first half to send the game into the break tied before the Cougars scored a pair late in the game to go home with the victory.

“The whole team played well,” Newport girls soccer coach Gary McCall said. “It was a great team effort.”

Skylar Nelson again stood tall in goal for Newport, while Torrence Williams and Cassie Sanborn were strong at midfield and Abby Tenney and Brooklyn Ranney created offensive chances.

JV Boys Soccer: Monadnock 8, Newport 3

A shorthanded Newport squad ran into a tough Monadnock squad and fell to the Huskies 8-3 September 9 on the road.

The Tigers got a first-career goal from Jayden Godwin and a goal and penalty kick from Bryce Palmer.

Godwin stepped in to play goal in the second half to relieve Newport’s injured starter, while Cameron Sanborn and Quinn Rusin played well for the Tigers.

Wednesday, September 11

Varsity Field Hockey: Gilford 3, Newport 2

Newport fell to two-time defending champion Gilford 3-2 September 11 at Veterans Field.

The Tigers took a 2-0 lead on a first half goal from Taylor Fellows from Maddox Lovely and a Lovely early second half on a feed from Fellows.

Gilford showed why they are the team to beat in Division III by scoring midway through the third quarter and early in the fourth quarter to tie the game. The Golden Eagles took the lead with just under three minutes left and held off a furious charge by the Tigers in the game’s final two minutes.

Newport Breanne Robertson was fantastic in goal making 21 saves for the Tigers. The Tigers also got stellar play from Jazmyn McNamara, Jasmyne Lee and Hanna Fellows.

Varsity Girls Soccer: Newport 9, Hinsdale 1

Newport ended a fourteen-game losing streak by streaking past Hinsdale 9-1 September 11 on the road.

Cassie Sanborn paced the offense with a hat trick, while Abby Tenney added a pair of goals and Brooklyn Ranney, Torrence Williams, Makayla Cossingham and Cheyenne Hannum added single tallies. Hannum’s was on a penalty kick.

Ranney added four helpers while Williams and Sanborn chipped in with two apiece. Skylar Nelson and Glory Parker each made five saves in split time in goal.


Friday, September 6

Varsity Girls Soccer: Gilford 7, Newport 0

Newport got off to a sluggish start and lost to Gilford 7-0 Sept. 6 at Sichol Field. The Golden Eagles are the two-time defending Division III champions and jumped out to a 5-0 halftime lead despite a yeoman’s effort from Newport senior goalie Skylar Nelson. Nelson stopped 22 shots on goal in the first half.

The Tigers played better in the second half and limited Gilford to just a pair of tallies. Newport received solid play on defense from Jesenya Santana and off the bench at midfield from Bella Medbery.

The Tigers fall to 0-2 on the season.

 Varsity Field Hockey: Newport 2, St. Thomas 1

Newport survived a scare from visiting St. Thomas slipping past the Saints 2-1 at Veterans Field.

Taylor Fellows paced the Newport offense with a pair of goals, one in each half, to lead the Tigers. Hanna Fellows added an assist. Breanne Robertson preserved the game with a highlight reel save in the cage late in the third quarter. Overall Robertson was outstanding in goal for the Tigers. Jazmyn McNamara was dominant at midfield, while sophomores Hailey Hill and Hanna Fellows both had solid games.

The Tigers are now 2-0.

Thursday, September 5

JV Boys Soccer: Franklin 7, Newport 4

Franklin cashed in on second half opportunities to beat Newport 7-4 Thursday in the season opener at Sichol Field. The game was tied 3-3 at the break and the Tornadoes were up 5-4 late, but scored a pair of insurance goals to put the game away in the final ten minutes.

Newport was led by sophomores John Wilkinson and Carson Almstrom with a pair of goals and an assist each. Bryce Palmer chipped in with a pair of assists.

Cam Sanborn was solid at midfield, while Logan Rusin anchored the back of the field.

Tuesday, September 3

Cross Country

The Newport boys cross country team opened the season for first-year head coach Tyler Whipple with a win over Monadnock and Fall Mountain at the Corbin Covered Bridge Tuesday, September 3.

Monadnock’s Peyton Joslyn was the individual winner in a time of 17:56. Newport’s team effort was led by Bryce Palmer in fourth place, followed by John Wilkinson (5th), Travis Avery (7th), Michael Bohn (8th), Lukas Pitta (9th) and Bentley Waterman (11th).

Varsity Field Hockey: Newport 11, Sanborn 0

Newport opened the field hockey season for first-year head coach Haley Cotrupi with a rout at Sanborn 11-0 Tuesday, September 3. Maddox Lovely paced the offense with five goals, while Taylor Fellows added four and Peyton Blackinton a pair. Jazmyn McNamara had an outstanding game on both offense and defense at her midfield position.

Breanne Robertson posted a shutout in the cage for the Tigers making three saves.

Hanna Fellows and Hailey Hill also received praise from Coach Cotrupi, as did Jasmyne Lee.

Varsity Girls Soccer: Conant 5, Newport 0

Newport opened the season falling at Conant 5-0 Tuesday, September 3.

The Tigers played well against the top-notch Orioles, but Conant’s offense was relentless, pounding twenty-five shots on Newport goalie Skylar Nelson. Nelson gave a great effort making fifteen saves for the Tigers. Newport’s defense had a stellar night creating ten offside calls on the Orioles. Jesenya Santana was solid for the Tigers on defense while Torrence Williams created several opportunities for the offense.

National Federation of State High School Associations Award

Newport High School was awarded the National Federation of State High School Associations Award of Excellence for Exemplary Display of Sportsmanship, Ethics, and Integrity. This was presented to our athletic director, Jeff Miller, during the NHIAA annual conference on September 9. Mr Miller is proud of the examples set by our coaching staff and student athletes!

Athletic Director Jeff Miller is named NHIAA Athletic Director of the Year.
