Superintendent
Welcome to Newport School District SAU #43
Donna Magoon, Superintendent of Schools
I began my career in Early Childhood Education, where I owned and operated three large childcare facilities. Those experiences helped shape my foundational belief that every child deserves a strong start to their educational journey. From there, I transitioned into public education as a paraeducator at the high school level while attending college to earn my teaching credentials. After becoming certified, I had the opportunity to teach both elementary and special education, which allowed me to see firsthand the importance of meeting students where they are to help them grow and succeed.
My passion for education and supporting students inspired me to pursue leadership roles in administration. I served as an administrator at both the elementary and high school levels, which gave me a well-rounded understanding of the developmental and academic needs of students across all grade levels. Following my son’s graduation from high school, I took on the role of assistant superintendent for three years before stepping into my current position as superintendent here in Newport.
I hold a Master’s in Education and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies (CAGS) in Educational Leadership and Management. These experiences, combined with my years in education, have reinforced my strong belief that all students have the ability to learn and be successful. I believe this because I have lived it. Growing up in a single-parent household in the projects, in a family with limited resources, I learned the value of hard work, perseverance, and education as a pathway to opportunity. I have seen students, much like myself, overcome challenges and achieve things they never thought possible when provided with the right support, opportunities, and encouragement.
It is truly an honor to serve the Newport School District and to work alongside such a dedicated and supportive team of educators, staff, and families. I am grateful to be part of a community that values collaboration and puts the needs of students first. Together, we are working to move the district in a positive direction, ensuring that every student has access to a high-quality education and the tools they need to thrive both in and out of the classroom.
I look forward to continuing to support our students, staff, and families, and I am excited about the bright future we are building together here in Newport.
