January 31 Games Rescheduled
Basketball games with Hillsboro/Deering postponed on January 31 will be made up as follows on February 5:
Newport varsity girls at Hillsboro/Deering 4:30 pm
Hillsboro/Deering JV boys at Newport 5:30 pm
Hillsboro/Deering varsity boys at Newport 7:00 pm

Tonight's Newport girls varsity basketball at Hillsboro-Deering and Hillsboro-Deering at Newport JV and varsity boys basketball have been postponed due to the impending weather. The games will be rescheduled for a later date.
All practices for athletics on January 31 are canceled.

On Tuesday the middle and high schools conducted a ‘scan’ emergency drill during which students and staff scan their surroundings for anything amiss. In this case, the planted item was found quickly and returned to administrators.

Two high school sports schedule changes:
The unified basketball game at Hinsdale scheduled for January 23 will now be played at Hinsdale on January 28 at 3:30 PM.
The boys basketball games at Derryfield School in Manchester on January 24 will now begin at 5:30 PM instead of 4:30 PM; JV boys at 5:30 PM and varsity boys at 7:00.

The unified basketball game at Hinsdale scheduled for January 16 at 3:30 p.m. has been rescheduled to Thursday, January 23 at 3:00 p.m.

January 15 Boys Basketball Games Moved to January 18
Kearsarge is already booked with a home wrestling meet on January 15. Those games will now be on January 18 with the JV game starting at 4:30 p.m. and the varsity game at 6:00 p.m.
The bus will depart at 3:15 p.m.

Tuesday, December 17
Varsity Boys Basketball - Newport 62, Fall Mt. 55
The Newport boys won a spirited, tightly played battle with Fall Mountain 62-55 December 17 at the Wheeler Gym. The game featured momentum swings back-and-forth with the Tigers having a big final frame to pick up the win. The Newport duo of Christian Forsythe and Aaron Fellows both had a game-high twenty-four points to lead the Tigers. Adrian Sanchez tossed in eight points and he and Aidan Couitt were huge on the defensive boards. The Wildcats got fantastic games from Luke St. Pierre with twenty-three points and Ledger Willett with eighteen.
JV Boys Basketball - Newport 41, Fall Mt. 25
The Newport boys junior varsity basketball team rebounded from a loss to Kearsarge to dominate visiting Fall Mountain 41-25 December 17 at the Wheeler Gym. Josh Seymour paced the Tigers with fifteen points, while Cam Nerenburg added eight and Jordan Sayer and Cory Richardson six each. The Tigers are now 1-1.

The Class of 2026's basket raffle has concluded. The class raised $2,215! Congratulations to all who donated baskets, all who bought tickets, all the winners and to the class for their hard work selling tickets.

Monday, December 16
Varsity Girls Basketball - Newport 59, Campbell 14
Newport opened the home slate of games with a resounding win over Campbell 59-14 December 16 at the Wheeler Gym. The Tigers built a commanding 33-6 halftime lead and rolled to the win. Taylor Fellows led Newport with thirty points, while Zoey Lord added nineteen. Newport moves to 2-0 with the win.
JV Girls Basketball - Campbell 36, Newport 25
Newport played a solid game, but fell to Campbell 36-25 December 16 at home. The Cougars led 21-11 at the half and closed out the game in the second half. Paige Hall led the Tigers with six points, while Aubrie Gosselin and Natasha Carpenter added five points each.

Saturday, December 14
Opening Indoor Track Meet at PSU
Newport’s indoor track team opened the season with an afternoon meet December 14 at Plymouth State University.
The Newport girls were led by Maddox Lovely with a first place in the long jump of 15 feet, 11 inches and a third place in the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 9.15 seconds. Callie Dixon set a school record and won the shot put with a toss of 32 feet, 11.5 inches.
The boys team got a fourth-place finish from Cayden Forand in the 600 meters with a school record time of 1:32.42. The 4 x 200-meter relay team of Forand, Tristan Hannum, John Hooper and Cameryn Simpson finished in sixth place.
Newport Wrestling Competes at ConVal Early Bird Tournament
Newport finished fifteenth out of twenty-one teams at the ConVal Early Bird Tournament December 14.
The Tigers scored a total of 36.5 points. Blake Ploss took third place in his weight category with a record of 4-1, while Brandon Gray was sixth at 2-2 and Caeden Gilman was 2-2.
Friday, December 13
Varsity Boys Basketball - Kearsarge 72, Newport 47
Kearsarge opened the season by sweeping past Newport 72-47 December 13 at the Wheeler Gym. The Tigers hung tough for a half going into the break only down 31-26. The Cougars exploded in the second half and cruised to the win. Kearsarge was led by the balanced scoring of Noah Whipple with 17 points, Austin Needham with 16, Elijah Whipple with 13 and Ajay Tremblay with 10. Aaron Fellows paced the Tigers with sixteen points, while Travis Avery tossed in nine and Aidan Couitt with seven.
Varsity Girls Basketball - Newport 52, Kearsarge 37
The Newport Tigers led from start to finish and beat the defending Division III champion Kearsarge Cougars 52-37 December 13 on the Marty Brown Court at the Carl D. Hill Gymnasium. The Tigers led 25-16 at the half and closed the game out with a strong second half. Zoey Lord led Newport to the win with a game-high nineteen points, while Taylor Fellows added twelve and Skylar Nelson eight. The Cougars were led by Ava Shapiro with thirteen points and Ocie Ilg with ten points.
JV Boys Basketball - Kearsarge 54, Newport 25
Kearsarge put together a strong effort to upend Newport 54-25 December 13 at home. The Tigers played a strong first quarter, but cold-shooting in the second quarter allowed the Cougars to build a lead and cruise to the win. Josh Seymour led Newport with ten points, while Cam Nerenburg added six.
JV Girls Basketball - Newport 22, Kearsarge 17
Newport made Coach Alyssa McLaughlin’s first game a success as the Tigers won at Kearsarge 22-17 December 13. The Tigers used a strong defense holding the Cougars to only four first-half points on their way to the win. Makayla Cossingham and Paige Hall led Newport with six points each.
Wednesday, December 11
Newport Splits Opening Wrestling Match
Newport beat Franklin 30-24 and lost to the host Campbell Cougars 54-25 December 11. Newport got six pins on the night. Blake Ploss and Brandon Gray each got two pins, while Dylan Stanley and Taylor Davis each had one.

The Class of 2027 will be holding a bake sale in the opera house during "Twas Just before Christmas" on Saturday, December 14 from 4:00-7:00 pm. Come support the class and take home some delicious baked goods!
